Asbestos and Mesothelioma
For decades, manufacturers produced asbestos in large quantities because it was an effective insulating material and inexpensive to produce. However, not unlike the cigarette industry, asbestos manufacturers, most notably the Manville Corporation, ignored testing and studies that showed the substance to be toxic and dangerous. Years later, thousands of people exposed to this substance have now developed mesothelioma, fatal cancer, or the lung disease, asbestosis.
These cases are unique to other personal injury cases and are typically quite complex. If your life has been stolen from you because of exposure to asbestos, call a Cranston asbestos attorney with the experience to help you through this awful time.

Symptoms & Diagnosis of MesotheliomaMesothelioma is a cancer of the mesothelial lining of the lungs and chest cavity. A person suffering from mesothelioma may experience shortness of breath due to pleural effusion (fluid in the lungs), pain in the chest, fever, coughing up blood, or fatigue. A chest x-ray or CT scan may be ordered if the doctor suspects mesothelioma, but it will ultimately be confirmed by biopsy. The treatment protocol for mesothelioma is similar to other cancers including, surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy.
Asbestosis is a lung disease caused by the permanent scarring suffered by a person breathing in asbestos fibers. The lungs are unable to expel asbestos fibers and respond by producing acid in an attempt to dissolve the fibers. Unfortunately, the acid build-up scars the lung tissue and may ultimately result in the lungs inability to function. A victim of asbestosis will also suffer from shortness of breath and is at a heightened risk of developing lung cancer.
